Michelle L. Locey

Michelle Locey chose to become a family law specialist working in major corporate law firm after law school. Since joining Kuder, Smollar & Friedman in 2005, she has been able to apply her broader knowledge to traditional family law issues. A skilled researcher and writer, Ms. Locey taught legal research and writing and introduction to advocacy at The George Washington University’s Law School from 2007 to 2009.

Ms. Locey graduated from The George Washington University Law School with high honors. While in law school, Ms. Locey participated in the Family and Civil Litigation clinic, representing low-income clients in divorce and child custody matters, and volunteered in the Family Court Self-Help Center at the D.C. Superior Court. Also while in law school. Ms. Locey honed her legal research and writing skills as an intern in the chambers of the Honorable Thomas F. Hogan, then Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

At Kuder, Smollar & Friedman, Ms. Locey handles divorce, spousal support, property division, retirement and pension matters, child custody, child support, adoptions and other matters related to family law in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Ms. Locey has also been involved in several appeals, and has collaborated on appellate briefs submitted to the D.C. Court of Appeals and to the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.

Ms. Locey is an amateur runner, who has completed two half marathons, and a baker, who enjoys making delicious treats for her co-workers birthdays.
