BIO: Theresa M. Mihalik is one of the leading practitioners
in the areas domestic relations field. She has been recognized
by the Washingtonian magazine as one of Washington, D.C.s
top lawyers. She is a principal in the firm and currently serves
as its manager. In addition to her work in handling divorces, she
has extensive experience in drafting prenuptial and cohabitation
agreements, which is a large part of her practice. She is also an
adjunct faculty member at the Catholic University of Americas
School of Law, teaching Family Law.
Prior to joining the firm, she served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable
Rufus G. King, III, at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia,
from 1987 to 1989. During her tenure as Law Clerk, Judge King served
as the Calendar One Judge for Domestic Relations cases. In 1995,
she was elected to the D.C. Bar Association's Family Law Steering
Committee. She served as the Program Chair and Treasurer for the
Steering Committee from 1995-1996. From 1996-1998, she served as
Co-Chair for the Steering Committee at-large. During her tenure,
the D.C. Bar Family Law Section was awarded the Frederick B. Abramson
Award for its partnership in the D.C. Bar PSAC Advice and Referral
Clinic. In addition to her Section leadership, she has served as
a faculty member for the D.C. Bar PSAC Uncontested Divorce Pro Se
Clinic, and currently serves as a mentor for the D.C. Bar PSAC Advice
and Referral Clinic. She is also a referral source for the Virginia
Women's Center.
In addition to her court practice, she is trained as a mediator
and presently serves as an Alternative Dispute Facilitator for the
Superior Court of the District of Columbias Alternative Dispute
Resolution (ADR) program. She is also trained in Collaborative
Law, and serves on the Board for the D.C. Academy of Collaborative
Professionals.
